EDC STRATEGIC PLAN

Thanks to all who participated in our public input sessions last spring.  Our EDC Strategic Plan has been approved by the EDC Board. Our EDC has worked hard to put together a plan that reflects the public input from our excellent workshops. The plan creates a vision for how we can grow our economy and a plan to get it done.

These funding options are meant to assist you if you are not quite able to obtain traditional bank financing. These are resources that serve business people in Cheboygan County.

Targeted Business Development Strategy

A study was conducted in Cheboygan County along with Emmet, Charlevoix, and Antrim Counties to identify areas of potential growth industries. The study will identify the types of businesses we would most likely be able to attract, which types of start-up companies would be most successful in our area, and what type of expansion would be most appropriate for our existing businesses.

Brownfield Redevelopment Authority

The Cheboygan County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority reviews proposals for the redevelopment of eligible property and determines what financial incentives are necessary to assist the redevelopment. The Authority prepares a plan that identifies the brownfield projects. Each project section of the plan includes the description of the eligible property, the eligible activities, the tax incentive (i.e.Tax Increment Financing or “TIF”) approaches to be taken and other issues related to the subject parcels. The Authority then recommends to the governing body of the municipality (city or village council, township board or county commission) that the decision-making body hold a public hearing regarding the plan and subsequently act to approve with modifications or deny the plan. The Authority would recommend revisions to the plan as new projects are submitted or revisions are requested on existing plan projects.
